Celebrating Our Indigenous Scholars @ 2023 Yalari Sydney Gala Dinner

8th Jun 2023

20 Humanitix team members dressed up at the Yalari Gala Dinner in Sydney

Last Friday, the Humanitix team was delighted to attend the 2023 Yalari Sydney Gala Dinner. Yalari is one of our impact partners that offers quality, secondary education scholarships at leading Australian boarding schools for Indigenous children from regional and remote communities. The Gala Dinner was an amazing celebration of Yalari students and alumni based in NSW and their achievements over the past year.

Alumni Elyne Tighe and Sophie Oakeshott played the role of Masters of Ceremony, while Year 12 Shore student Jye Peters gave a speech that told of the impact Yalari and Shore have had on his family. Kayla Baker-Peris (Class of 2018) spoke of her journey from Northern Territory to Kambala in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs, and a few of our Yalari scholars received well-deserved awards for their resilience and their leadership.

We were also treated to Yalari student Hayley Green and her classmate from Kambala, Eliza Andrews, performing “For Good” - a song about the coming together of different worlds and the beauty of the relationships formed along the way. There were definitely some tears shed at our table!

The Humanitix team was honored to be a part of this event and to learn more about Yalari's work. It's not often that we have a chance to truly connect with the end impact of our daily work, so we are grateful for these opportunities to share and delight in the achievements of our impact partners.

Attending this event made us prouder than ever of supporting Yalari's Indigenous Scholarships program. We believe that education is the most powerful tool for change, and we are committed to helping Yalari create a brighter future for Indigenous Australians.

In addition to attending the Gala Dinner, the Humanitix team was also humbled by an inspiring in-office talk by Yalari Chairman Bruce Davidson, and Lincoln Whiteley, a Yalari alumnus. Bruce and Lincoln spoke about the tangible impact Yalari makes on an ongoing basis through its scholarships. They shared stories of Yalari students who have gone on to achieve great things, despite facing significant challenges.

The Humanitix team would like to thank Yalari for the opportunity to attend the 2023 Sydney Gala Dinner and for the inspiring in-office talk. We are proud to support Yalari's work, and we look forward to continuing our partnership in the years to come.
