Sydney, Vivid 2026 is almost here, and it is time to illuminate your itinerary with the city's best and brightest experiences. For 23 nights each year, our harbour city flips a switch at night and transforms into a luminous nighttime wonderland. But, the real magic of Vivid isn't just in the light shows, spectacular as they are; it is the way these lights paint a new landscape on the familiar and help us rediscover the world around us. Vivid is about more than just a photo op. It is about illuminating our minds, sparking creativity, creating connections and reminding us that even the most familiar corners of our city can be reimagined when viewed through a different lens.
With that spirit of discovery in mind, we have curated a selection of experiences that go beyond the expected to truly light up your Vivid this year.
1. A Shared Table with Yotam Ottolenghi
Renowned chef and cookbook author Yotam Ottolenghi presents A Shared Table. For this exclusive lunch and dinner, Ottolenghi brings his world famous philosophy of colour, freshness and abundance to the heart of the Sydney CBD. Ottolenghi’s menu is the crown jewel of the Regional Dinner Series. He applies a global lens to the very best NSW produce, elevating homegrown flavours while letting their natural origins shine. This experience is a rare chance to break bread with one of the most influential chefs on the planet, in a vibrant celebration of our state's culinary culture.

2. Vivid Sydney x Biennale of Sydney: Art After Dark
Art After Dark transforms the historic White Bay Power Station into a high-energy hub of left-of-centre music and innovative art. Friday nights become a sanctuary of culture where you can explore the 25th Biennale of Sydney while soaking up live performances and local food offerings. Whether you are catching a ticketed ambient techno set or hitting the free closing night party, it is the perfect blend of Sydney’s heritage and its cutting-edge future. It is a rare chance to see one of the city's most imposing landmarks come alive with light and an experimental pulse.

3. Star-Bound: Vivid Sydney Drone Show
Prepare to crane your neck at the most ambitious drone show in the festival’s history. Across 22 shows over 12 nights, 1000 synchronised drones will take flight above Darling Harbour to tell a story of universal patterns and cosmic connection. This technological feat is a high-tech ballet in the clouds, moving in unison to a stirring orchestral score to prove the sky is definitely not the limit when it comes to Vivid. Since it is a free event, make sure you bag your spot on the wharf early to catch this communal moment of wonder as it unfolds.

4. Lighting of the Sails: Opera Mundi
You cannot say you have "done" Vivid without witnessing the Sydney Opera House in its festival finest. This year, renowned French artist Yann Nguema presents Opera Mundi, a digital masterpiece that turns the iconic sails into a living, breathing organism. Translating to "works of the world," this projection is a hypnotic tribute to the sea and sky that originally inspired the architect of the Opera House, Jørn Utzon. Using a unique visual language of science and computer programming, Nguema reveals the subtle, sublime mechanics of nature that are often easily missed by the naked eye. It is the ultimate hallmark of the city's creative heartbeat and a profound reminder of our connection to the living world.

5. Run Vivid
Why walk the light walk when you can run it? Run Vivid is the ultimate way to get your heart racing while soaking up the night-time glow of the festival. Starting at the iconic Sydney Opera House steps, this 6.5km social run turns you into a "moving installation," with every participant wearing a light-up vest, becoming a part of the Vivid story as you navigate the harbour foreshore. It is all about high energy, community vibes, and seeing the festival from a totally different pace. Led by experienced runners, the route hits all the big hitters from Circular Quay to Barangaroo, with plenty of stops to catch your breath and grab the perfect photo along the way.

6. Vaiola at the MCA
Rediscover one of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks as it transforms into a lush, cinematic dreamscape. This year, Sāmoan-Australian artist Angela Tiatia presents Vaiola, a monumental projection that floods the facade of the Museum of Contemporary Art with a vibrant palette of pearls, fire, and flowers. Named after a place near Tiatia’s home in Sāmoa meaning "water of life," this work is a powerful ode to migration and longing, set to a stirring score by Corin Ileto.

7. Yeah Buoy: Vivid closing boat party
If you want to go out with a bang, this is the place to do it. There is nothing quite like seeing the Vivid lights from the middle of the harbour, and the Yeah Buoy boat party takes that experience to the next level. Think pumping tracks, a floating dance floor, and front-row seats to the final night of the festival of light. It is the definitive way to sign off on Vivid 2026!

8. Our Shared Future: A Vivid Sydney experience
Refettorio OzHarvest is hosting a unique dinner series, Our Shared Future, as part of Vivid 2026. This special event brings together seven of New South Wales’ most exciting chefs, including heavy hitters from Ho Jiak, Sixpenny, and King Clarence, for a sequence of one-night-only collaborations. Each four-course menu is a masterclass in sustainability, crafted using up to 95% fresh, rescued produce. Beyond the exceptional dining, the series empowers local students to work alongside these culinary stars, gaining hands-on experience in the kitchen. It is a rare chance to support a more sustainable future while enjoying a world-class meal that proves rescued produce can be the ultimate luxury.
