Your booking fees have built a high school for refugees in Uganda!

Smiling and laughing students in Uganda

In 2023, we received this amazing video from Ntakamaze Nziyonvira, the Executive Director of CIYOTA (COBURWAS International Youth Organization to Transform Africa) with a heartwarming message for Humanitix and all its supporters.

In the video, Ntakamaze (who also goes by TK) talks about how the donations from Humanitix have helped fund access to quality secondary education for refugees and disadvantaged community youth in the Kyangwali refugee settlement.

In particular, Humanitix has supported CIYOTA’s education infrastructure, and helped build a secondary school including:

  • A dining hall with a food store and kitchen
  • A classroom block of three classrooms
  • Two blocks of science laboratories.

How awesome is that?! 🤯

It’s not everyday that we get to see the tangible impact resulting from our work, so you can imagine how stoked we were to receive this update and video.

And it’s all thanks to YOU - our community of event hosts and attendees. Your booking fees have not only funded access to secondary education to more students, they have also improved the quality of STEM programs in the Kyangwali refugee settlement.

Within the settlement there are over 13,000 refugees between the age of 12-18 years, and only 600 or less were accessing secondary education in 2022. This meant that over 12,000 learners were out of school. In 2023, with Humanitix’s funding CIYOTA was able to support 1,345 learners both in primary and secondary schools. This year they’ll be able to expand secondary education services further and not only provide more access to education for learners, but improve the quality of education too. Keep up the great work CIYOTA!
