The key ingredient to a great festival partnership: In conversation with Whippersnap & Humanitix
Jan 21st 2026
What makes a festival partnership actually work?
Is it the speed of the platform? The seamless checkout flow? When we sat down with Shane LaVigne, the visionary behind Florida’s Whippersnap Music and Arts Festival, we expected a debrief on tech specs and workflow efficiencies. Instead, we found a deeper truth.
The most powerful "feature" we offer isn't digital at all. In an increasingly automated world, being "human" is the ultimate disruptor.
From Farm Yard Roots to Florida Festival Staple — Whippersnap
At its heart, a festival is a sacred congregation, a fleeting moment where a shared devotion to art and music dissolves the boundaries between us. Whippersnap is far more than a date on the Floridian festival calendar. It is a distinct cultural heartbeat fuelled by the soul of its people.
"The stages are exploding with lasers, trees are morphed into faces through projection mapping, and the primitive camping area is transformed into an electric forest," Shane explains. "You will not see visuals like this at any event similar in size."
Shane, one of the founders of Whippersnap, didn’t start out as a traditional festival organizer. Rather he was the guy in the band doing the admin, the one organising backyard parties that eventually morphed into "WagonFest" on a friend’s farm. As the gathering grew, so did its complexity. Navigating the “non-fun stuff” like liquor licensing, insurance, and logistics became the necessary scaffolding to support the vision. Out of that evolution, Whippersnap was born.
The Pulse Behind the Production
For Shane, the magic lies in seeing a year’s worth of labor "pop off" in four days. When we asked Shane why he chose to partner with Humanitix for a third year in a row, he didn't point to our ticket resale features or offline ticket scanning functions.
Rather, he shared a moment that captures the exact second a platform turns into a person, right when the dust is kicking up and the pressure starts to climb.
Last year, as cars began to line up at the entrance, Shane made the call to open the gates two hours early. Suddenly, a snag occurred because the scanning devices weren't cooperating. With hundreds of eager festival goers waiting and the pressure mounting, Shane emailed Kierstin on the Humanitix team.
His phone rang roughly 60 seconds later.
"She promptly helped us determine the cause and the fix," Shane recalls. "The availability and communication from your reps is second to none. I carry a specific confidence into opening the front gate knowing they’ve got my back."

While the tech behind Humanitix might be the engine, humans are the fuel.
"We’re a family based organisation," Shane says. "We focus on quality and tight relationships. I believe Humanitix does the same."
The Whippersnap Why
For Whippersnap, the choice to partner with Humanitix came down to a deep alignment of values. It was about more than just having a great ticketing platform; it was about working with a partner who truly cared and drove impact with their profits. It’s the ultimate industry plot twist: you still get the high-performance tech and great customer support you need, while the booking fees, which are lower than other industry competitors, are dedicated to charity.
"I’ve done extensive research on available partners," Shane says, "and you win because I appreciate that a portion of the funds are used for children’s charities."
The Festival Organizer’s Toolkit:
We asked Shane for the real-talk advice he’d give to other festival organizers. Here is his "organizer-to-organizer" toolkit:
- Play the Long Game: Organization is going to be your best friend, so get your systems tight and focus on organic growth. Scale at a pace that won’t break you, set a realistic budget, and the hardest part - actually stick to it.
- Build Your A-Team: Surround yourself with high-level talent and a quality team who can actually execute the vision when things get chaotic. You want a tight production and a crew that cares as much about the "vibe" as they do about the logistics.
- Own the Negotiating Table: “Develop relationships with booking agents, never ask how much they want you to pay a band on their roster (some exceptions may apply based on the individual agent & your relationship with them). Decide what makes sense to you, send an offer with an expiration date and see what happens. If you ask, you’re typically going to receive a number that’s roughly double of what you would like to pay.”
About Whippersnap Music and Arts Festival
Whippersnap is a world-class collision of sound and sight, where premier talent performs alongside the very best musicians Florida has to offer. The air here stays thick with the soul of heavy horns and deep funk, played at a level of musicianship that puts the airwaves to shame. It is a sensory feast for the eyes as much as the ears, fuelled by the vision of world-class lighting directors, the stages become explosions of color and light. Laser projection mapping morphs the surrounding trees into living faces, transforming the camp grounds into a glowing, electric forest. Yet, beneath the high-octane production lies a gentle heart, a family and dog-friendly community rooted in respect and a shared love for the "Whippersnap vibe."
Save the date: Whippersnap is bringing the magic to Florida Sand Music Ranch, from Feb 18 to 22 this year. Grab your tickets before it’s too late!
