From Ticket Buyer to Founding Member: Meet Melvin

Some people take weeks to decide on a new job. Melvin Muturi took about five minutes.

Melvin is an Account Executive and a founding member of our UK team, joining Humanitix in May 2025. What brought him here was the model itself. He studied international development at university and had long been drawn to social enterprise, particularly the role sport can play in social mobility, gender equality and opening up conversations about mental health.

Melvin a.k.a. "The Kenyan Tiger" loves to stay active and you can always find him on a run or on a hiking trail.

From pessimist to a Humani-human

Like most of us, Melvin had grown tired of the ticketing industry.

"People, including myself, have got so used to paying high fees for events we love. With all the negative press surrounding ticket touting, it's fair to say I grew a pessimistic view of the industry."

Then someone introduced him to Humanitix.

"It was like a lightbulb moment. First thing I did? I bought 6 tickets for an upcoming music concert in Glasgow. Second thing I did? Cleared out my evening and polished off my CV to send to the team."

For Melvin, the ethical model immediately attracted him to Humanitix, and it was a no-brainer that he wanted to be part of the journey. At the time he applied, Humanitix had just landed in Edinburgh to launch in Scotland and the UK.

"A model that's sustainable, and one where everyone wins, is unique. It's a journey I was ridiculously excited to be a part of. Fair to say, I felt like a Humani-human after 5 minutes of looking into the company."

"This doesn't even feel like a stereotypical workplace"

Ask Melvin what he loves most about working at Humanitix and he doesn't hesitate. It's the people.

"We embrace humanity in every sense of the word. Each person is encouraged to embrace their own unique quirks and traits, without fear of judgement and discrimination. The environment that this fosters is something I haven't experienced before in a workplace."

"It feels like a community of people who genuinely believe in an idea, and the power that this idea has, to influence tangible change in our neighbourhoods, cities, countries and wider world. There's a fire and desire within every Humani-human to push this mission forward and give back to the world in meaningful ways."

The dance party test

The thing that surprised him? Nobody laughs at your ideas here.

A few months in, Melvin floated a slightly unusual one: a dance party to celebrate the live events on Humanitix that were generating donations. He expected it to be politely ignored.

"The next day, guess what we did? That's right, we had a dance party which was extremely cringey but also so wholesome. Everyone was bussing a move, although I admit that I was the worst dancer out of the team."

"Having an open mindset to ideas and hearing people's voices no matter how long they've been at the company is something I wasn't expecting."

Show up

Of the Humanitix values, the one Melvin carries furthest beyond work is 'Show up'.

"As much as we keep it fun and weird, and embrace humanity, the thing I love most is that everyone has a hustler's mindset. No passengers. What you put in is what you'll get out. Make a mistake? No worries, we're only human after all, but how you respond to that mistake is key."

"As the Aussies say, we're not here to f*ck spiders."

Watching the penny drop, in person

His highlight so far is the moment he watches other people arrive where he arrived in five minutes.

"Going to in-person events and seeing people have that lightbulb moment when I explain the Humanitix model. People want to do good but often don't know where to start, and I love that Humanitix gives people that opportunity to give back without sacrificing time, effort or money."

Lightning round⚡️

Favourite place you've travelled?

"There are so many places on my bucket list, Egypt, Greece, New Zealand, Brazil, but I'll always have Kenya in my heart. I was born in Kenya but moved to the UK when I was young. The food, scenery, wildlife and culture are all immaculate. I'll never get tired of going there."

Go-to karaoke song?

Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. "Certified banger."

One skill you'd master instantly?

"Opera singing. I would make Pavarotti proud."

Personal mantra?

"Stay smiling, and stay grinding. Life's a trip, but it'll all work out with perfect timing."

He also keeps a line he credits to Eliud Kipchoge close by: only the disciplined are free, because the undisciplined are slaves to their moods and their passions.

If Humanitix was a song?

Do It Good by Bill Withers.

"A song all about giving life your absolute best, no matter where you're starting from."
