Dec 10th 2021
Whether it’s Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok or Twitter, creating a visually inspiring party theme will increase the likelihood of your guests sharing your event on their favorite social channels. But how exactly are you meant to organise the kind of event that lights up socials?
Below is a list of visually striking and on-trend party themes that’ll be sure to cut through the noise!
1. Outer Space
Mars Rover, Perseverance, has finally landed, making us a step closer to discovering life outside of our planet. How better to celebrate than with a space-themed event? Evening events work best for this type of theme. Be sure to include astronauts, twinkling stars and cosmic beverages to transport your guests into another galaxy.
2. Dream Travel Destination
After a year without travel, and some of our favourite places being further away than ever, why not bring the dream destination here? If you’re dreaming of an afternoon in Paris, lay out a blanket in the summer sun with baguettes, cheese and bubbles. Fancy a summer in Capri? Think about bringing a gelato stall to your event, ceramic-tiled plates and a healthy dose of limoncello. You could fill a room with inflatable palm trees and pool toys and pretend to be at an island getaway.
3. Anime and Superhero
A theme that’ll surely provide incredible photo ops is hosting a mini Comic-Con of your own. Have your guests dress up in their favorite cosplay outfits, with a best costume award show to provide your guests that extra incentive to join in on the fun!
4. Australian Reality TV
With most of the world stuck inside due to a pandemic, this past 12 months was the year we gobbled up all kinds of reality TV. With so many shows to choose from - from The Bachelor to The Masked Singer - there’s plenty of ideas out there. Host a mini Masterchef food competition, an Australia’s Got Talent show. There’s plenty of ways to get all your guests involved in some good ole’ trashy reality TV.
5. Daft-Punk
Daft Punk announced this year that they have broken up, and we’re all pretty upset about it. So what better way to memorialise the iconic duo than by throwing a Daft-Punk themed event? Your event decor should be futuristic with lasers, helmets, complete with a Daft Punk tribute band that’ll be sure to blow away all your attendees.
6. Star Wars
Baby Yoda is the meme generator that keeps on giving, and with the Mandalorian having everyone talking, a Star Wars-themed bash is guaranteed to get everyone involved. Consider having some Storm Troopers stationed at the entrance to greet your guests, then treat your guests to some Star Wars-themed cocktails. Don’t forget to include the iconic Star Wars theme as your soundtrack for the evening!
7. The Weeknd Superbowl Half-time
Remember that bonkers half-time show and producer of some incredible memes? A “Weeknd Superbowl Halftime” themed event will sure to get your attendees laughing and dancing. There should be bandages on faces, red jackets, black gloves and music by the Weeknd all night long!
8. Australian Idol
Australian Idol is making a long awaited comeback, so let’s mark the occasion by throwing an idol-themed bash! Set up a karaoke machine in front of a row of judges featuring some Aus idol classics to encourage an almighty sing along of Guy Sebastian’s “Angels Brought Me Here”, Casey Donovan’s “Listen With Your Heart”, or even the Shannon Noll belter “What About Me”.
9. Music Festival: Coachella
Yes, Coachella was cancelled, but with festivals set to return in Australia and New Zealand, why not get the party started and throw a mini festival of your own? To go full Coachella, throw in some palm trees and a lot of influencers!
10. Sex and the City
With a Sex And the City reboot on the horizon, let’s take your attendees on a trip to the Upper East Side. You could even have a quiz to determine if your guests are Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda or Samantha.
11. The Office
It was the most-watched TV show in the pandemic, so it goes without saying that an Office themed event would be a perfect fit for your next office party. Consider hosting your very own Dundie Awards night and make sure your event space is filled with Jims, Dwights, and Pams all ready to bring Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch back to its heyday. And don’t forget to put a few of your colleague’s staplers in jello.

15. Bond, James Bond!
We hope you’re as excited for the new James Bond movie coming out this year as we are, so why not add a Bond theme to your black-tie event? The bar should be filled with all the essentials to make an excellent martini, while no Bond could be complete without blackjack and roulette tables to keep your guests entertained. Your event’s vibe should ooze classy and sophisticated which should extend into the decor and music. You may even want to spice up the event by throwing in some Bond villains to greet your guests.

18. Disco
If you’ve been missing the dancefloors like a lot of us have, then it’s definitely time to hang up the mirror balls, fire up some 70s disco tunes, and get your guests dancing in retro disco outfits. Think Studio 54 in its heyday (maybe without the surprise horse in the middle of the dancefloor)!

21. Health & Wellness Retreat
If the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that all of us could be healthier. Your guests will appreciate a day to focus on their health and wellbeing, so consider programming the day with a mix of exercise classes and workshops designed to get their bodies moving. A kombucha or smoothie bar would be a treat alongside a make-your-own salad station so that your guests leave the day feeling better than ever.
22. Red Carpet

24. Fairytale
A fairytale-themed event is always a winner, especially in a year when we could all use some escapism. If done well, events like this provide amazing photo opportunities and buzz around your event. There are plenty of ways to execute this theme, but as long as you’re focused on transporting your guests into a fairytale world that’s touched with a bit of magic, your guests won’t be able to stop talking about it.
25. Oktoberfest
With everyone’s favorite German festival canceled in 2020, attendees will love being transported to a lederhosen and beer-filled event we can all get behind. 27. Speakeasy

29. Graffiti Block Party
This theme requires setting up blank walls around the place but is loads of fun and gets everyone involved! Bring all kinds of spray can colours and let everyone create their own graffiti art throughout the day or evening. Sprinkle in some DJs spinning vinyl and BBQs grilling and you’ve got yourself a block party fit for all ages!

Serve pizza as an appetizer: just like in Fortnite, people love to collect pizza slices as they go along their journey through various stages of gameplay.
