Impact Stories - Kiirra from Yalari
15th Feb 2023
Humanitix is proud to partner with Yalari as they continually change the lives of Indigenous children from remote and regional communities around Australia. Yalari’s mission is to offer quality secondary educational scholarships at leading Australian secondary boarding schools to First Nations kids. Yalari and Humanitix believe education is the key to generational change and a brighter future for Indigenous children.
The inspiring stories formed by Yalari’s scholarship program are a key reason why we love working together as impact partners. Stories such as Kiirra Bligh, a young man from the Gubbi Gubbi Nation who graduated from The Southport School on the Gold Coast with a Yalari scholarship.
Kiirra came from a small town with only nine kids in his school, including himself, his brother, and his sister. As he said in an interview with Yalari,
“I had two other kids in my class, and the opportunities from that school were amazing. It was great having the one on one teaching, but from there, the academic side of things coming to The Southport School was at a different level.”
Following his graduation from The Southport School, Kiirra studied for a construction management and quantity surveying degree at Bond University while working full-time in real estate.
“Getting opportunities like this, I have to say a massive thank you to the Yalari team and everyone supporting Yalari. It’s made an easy journey, and I’m grateful for every opportunity I get.”
From all of us humans here at Humanitix, congratulations Kiira!
