We are excited to announce the Climate Levy, a new partnership with onboard:earth that gives all event hosts across the UK a way to help fund projects that protect and regenerate vital ecosystems to acknowledge the environmental impact of events.

Here's how it works.

Switch on the Climate Levy in your Humanitix event settings and pick your amount. A mandatory micro-donation is then added to every order. Humanitix collects it at checkout and sends 100% straight to onboard:earth, who puts it to use by funding forest and marine restoration projects, planting trees and supporting communities on the frontline of climate change.

Your event revenue stays untouched, and there's nothing further for you to do - it’s that easy to make your event greener! 🌱Hosts can share inspiring stories showing the real-world impact that event-goers’ donations have made for nature.

Why we built the Climate Levy

Up to 80% of a live event's carbon footprint comes from attendee travel, and it's the part you as the host have the least control over, because it happens before anyone arrives.

Addressing it is where most hosts get stuck, and that's where the Climate Levy comes in. It turns the checkout into an opportunity to help balance your event's environmental impact.

onboard:earth are pioneers in this space. They've been funding climate restoration projects through live events since 2015, raising £864,609, planting 86,972 trees, protecting 41,108 acres of threatened rainforest, and engaging 831,000 event-goers along the way.

The impact your events fund

The Climate Levy funds Canopy & Coast, onboard:earth's programme of vetted, community-led restoration projects. Every £20 donated goes to:

🌳 The protection of 1 acre of threatened rainforest, preserving the habitats of endangered wildlife and safeguarding biodiversity.

🌱 1 tree planted in the UK through a community project, which can be directed to a project local to your event.

🌍 3 trees planted by communities on the front line of climate breakdown, restoring degraded landscapes and creating long-term livelihoods for women and their communities.

🌊 Seagrass plugs planted and maintained along UK coastlines, restoring one of the most effective natural carbon sinks.

Each partner of Canopy & Coast goes through rigorous due diligence, and communities share regular impact updates throughout the year, so you as the host can show your attendees exactly what their contribution helped achieve.

Getting started with the Climate Levy

1. Switch it on. Head to ‘Payments and fees’ > ‘Climate levy’ in the Humanitix console, select ‘Add a Climate Levy’, and choose the tier that best suits your event.
2. It applies automatically at checkout. Every ticket order will include the Climate Levy, shown to the buyer as a new line item in their order.
3. 100% of the levy goes to onboard:earth. It's collected at the same time as your ticket revenue, with nothing additional for you to invoice or reconcile.
4. Funds go towards restoration projects, and onboard:earth reports back on the impact.

One thing to know: the Climate Levy replaces any existing donation option on your event page. You can run one or the other, but not both.
