Safeena Husain, the founder of Educate Girls, visits Humanitix

Humanitix recently welcomed Safeena Husain, the founder of Educate Girls, who shared her inspiring journey of transforming education for underprivileged girls in rural India. Educate Girls was recently added to the recommended charity list of The Life You Can Save, and is an incredible non-profit working towards empowering communities for girls' education in some of India's hardest-to-reach villages.

Safeena shared with our team her experiences in mobilising over 1.8 million girls for school enrolment, in over 29,000 villages across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. By engaging with a huge base of community volunteers, using predictive analytics and machine learning, Educate Girls helps to identify, enrol, and retain out-of-school girls and improves foundational skills in literacy and numeracy for all children. They focus on ensuring that girls from marginalized communities have access to quality education, especially in regions where societal barriers limit their opportunities.

During her visit, Safeena explained how her organization addresses these challenges through innovative community-driven solutions. The flagship initiative, Team Balika, empowers local volunteers to identify and enrol out-of-school girls, mobilizing entire villages to prioritize education. These volunteers work closely with parents and local authorities to dismantle cultural and logistical barriers that prevent girls from attending school.

Educate Girls also focuses on improving educational outcomes through remedial learning programs. They ensure that girls not only attend school but excel, especially in foundational subjects like literacy and numeracy. The program combines technology and data-driven approaches to track the progress of each girl, customizing support to ensure effective learning.

Safeena shared inspiring success stories of girls who, against the odds, have returned to school and transformed their futures. These success stories are not just about education but about changing social norms, where girls who once faced forced marriages or child labor are now role models in their communities, dreaming of careers and independence.

Safeena's visit underscored the power of collaboration in driving systemic change. By sharing her story, she reminded everyone at Humanitix that access to education is more than just a right—it's a tool to break cycles of poverty and uplift entire communities.
